The Claude app
While a Remote Control session is active, Claude Code can push to the Claude app. Turn on Push when Claude decides (Claude picks the moment, usually when a long task ends) and Push when actions required (permission prompts and questions) in /config. Good if you already use Remote Control and only Claude Code.
ntfy
Free and open source, with an iPhone app. Subscribe to a topic, then call it from a Stop hook:
curl -d "Claude Code finished" ntfy.sh/your-long-random-topic
Anyone who knows a topic name on ntfy.sh can read it unless you reserve it with access control, so pick a long random one or run your own server. You write the “only when away” and “only long tasks” logic yourself.
Pushover
A paid notification app with an API. Its emergency priority repeats the alert until you acknowledge it, and Critical Alerts can get through the mute switch once you turn them on in its settings. You call the API with curl from a hook and write the filtering yourself.
Telegram
Free if you already use it: create a bot with BotFather, find your chat ID and send a message from a hook. Alerts arrive as ordinary chat messages.
AgentAlarm
Made for agents: the plugin sets up the hooks for Claude Code, and the same CLI covers Codex and Cursor. It alerts only when you are away and the task ran long enough. Through the MCP tools Claude can also set reminders and ring you like an alarm when you ask. iPhone only. Set it up.
Which one to pick
- Claude app: you use Remote Control and only Claude Code.
- ntfy: you want free, open source or self-hosted, and you are fine scripting.
- Pushover: you want repeating emergency alerts on Android or desktop too.
- Telegram: you live in Telegram anyway.
- AgentAlarm: you want an iPhone alarm that rings, reminders your agent can set, and one setup for several agents.
Questions
Can I use more than one?
Yes. Hooks can call several commands, so you can send to AgentAlarm and to ntfy, for example.
Do I need my own server?
No. Only if you choose to self-host ntfy.
Is AgentAlarm affiliated with these tools?
No. AgentAlarm is made by an independent developer and is not affiliated with Anthropic, ntfy, Pushover or Telegram.
